Top things to do in Bedfordshire

Where our villages are isn’t just a coincidence, we choose places we know our residents are going to love. We’re excited to have two new villages coming to Bedfordshire; Elderswell in Turvey and Millfield Green in Caddington.

Among the things we take into consideration when deciding where to build our villages, are the local amenities and having exciting things to do nearby. So, we thought we’d share some of our favourite things to do in and around Bedfordshire.

Shopping

Whether you’re looking for a large shopping centre to visit on a rainy day, a market village full of independent shops, or a farmers’ market to pick up some fresh local produce - Bedfordshire has it all.

One of the best things about Bedfordshire is how many unique market towns it has. If you want to feel like you’ve stepped back in time, then a trip to Ampthill is a must, with quirky buildings along lovely Georgian streets. Or a trip to Dunstable combining historic architecture with modern high street shopping. And let’s not forget the county town Bedford. The town centre has everything you need from high street shopping to independent stores, with plenty of places to eat and drink to enjoy a pit stop during your retail therapy.

Attractions

One thing Bedfordshire is not short of, is places to visit and things to do. With lots of family attractions to keep the grandchildren entertained, museums and historical sites to pique your interest, great shopping destinations and plenty of good food and drink, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Why not head to Woburn Safari Park or Whipsnade Zoo for a magical day looking at all the different animal exhibitions - perfect for the young and old. Or, if a day at the zoo isn’t your idea of fun, then why not head to Woburn Abbey and explore the Abbey’s private art collection or visit the beautiful garden and enjoy its maze.

Countryside

Not only is Bedfordshire rich in attractions and places to visit, but it’s also chock-full of beautiful outdoor spaces and countryside. Rushmere Country Park is one of Bedfordshire’s most tranquil places to visit. With 400 acres of woodland, heathland and meadows, it is full of walking, hiking and biking routes ready for you to explore.

Another wonderful place to visit is Dunstable Downs famous for its spectacular views and scenic landscapes. If you are a keen bird-watcher, then we recommend Harrold-Odell Country Park home to many types of birds and features two lakes, with lovely routes along riverbanks and water meadows. Whatever you’re looking for, you can find it in Bedfordshire - just make sure you get some good walking boots.
