Charles Waterton

Charles Waterton was a 19th-century action man from Yorkshire and an eccentric (batty) English naturalist. He once captured a caiman by jumping on its back and then tying his braces around its mouth. His ‘bat’ antics were legendary - he would sleep with his foot out of the window hoping to attract the interest of vampire bats enough so that one would bite his toe. It is not known if he succeeded. His dinner parties at his home, Walton Hall, were legendary. For the whole evening, he would embody the bat by hanging from furniture and mimicking bat calls. He was a friend of the naturalist, Charles Darwin. As Robin once said to Batman “Holy cold creeps".
