As part of Inspired Villages’ celebrations of National Fitness Day 2021, we wanted to share a seated exercise workout routine our Wellbeing Navigator Tania Skerritt carried out with some residents at one of our villages.
Chair based exercises have been proven to help maintain and promote independence and mobility in older people, with the NHS recommending that over 65s take part in sitting exercises at least twice a week.
The improvements demonstrated by prolonged seated exercise include increased strength, power and flexibility, improved balance, lower postural hypotension and decreased risk of arthritic pain and depression.
