New Research Finds Over 55s Want a More Active Sex Life

Research commissioned by later living provider, Inspired Villages, into ‘101 Ways to Enjoy Getting Older’ has found that over 55s want a more active sex life, with other top responses including desire to travel, exercise and get out more. All of the results from the survey will be announced at a debate at London’s Southbank Centre on Thursday 21st November, where actor and TV presenter Christopher Biggins will join fellow celebrities Gloria Hunniford OBE and Dr Dawn Harper on stage.

The free event will be the culmination of a mission launched by Inspired Villages in 2018 to discover the best ways to enjoy retirement. The ‘101 Ways to Enjoy Getting Older’ campaign has been touring the nation, asking people aged 55-plus to reveal their top tips for a happy and fulfilled retirement. With everything from ‘staying active’ and ‘being yourself’ featuring heavily amongst the advice for present and future retirees, with other tips including ‘be spontaneous’, ‘don’t conform to stereotypes, ‘accept imperfection’ and ‘be naked more often’.

The research reveals the top 101 ways people enjoy getting older, as well as popular desires and hopes for later life. The research also found that the top reasons stopping over 55’s from doing activities were money and ill health, with main worries about getting older being developing Alzheimers/Dementia or being dependant on a partner or family member.

With panel events, all chaired by Gloria Hunniford, running the length and breadth of the country, each has involved honest and frank discussions about health, happiness, inspirations and aspirations for retirees of today and tomorrow. Audience members have been actively taking part in the discussion by sharing their own top tips and in some cases their talents, with one audience member singing to the whole audience, demonstrating her own way of enjoying retirement.

Gloria Hunniford, comments: “We’re all hugely looking forward to the grand finale, which promises to be a lively and inspiring event.

“We’ve had an absolute blast with the 101 Ways to Enjoy Getting Older tour and it has been an incredibly inciteful initiative. From the importance of being part of a community, going back to a childhood hobby or even starting a rock band – the tour has uncovered some amazing ways to make the most of later life. I’ve been blown away by the level of audience participation throughout and it’s been a delight to meet so many wonderful people along the way.”

The main findings of the research will be unveiled during two separate interactive sessions at 11am and 2pm on 21st November at the Southbank Centre, London, when even more members of the audience will get the chance to share their thoughts and put questions to the panel.

James Cobb, Director of Inspired Villages comments: “Watching our celebrity panellists in action and seeing the thousands of people that have joined the debate has been more exciting than we could ever have imagined.

“Our whole philosophy is based around facilitating a happy, independent life for our residents, and we’ll use the ideas that have come out of the campaign to continually ensure our villages are delivering what our customers want.”

The grand finale will be chaired by TV and radio star Gloria Hunniford OBE, known most recently for ITV’s lunchtime chat show Loose Women and the BBC consumer programme Rip Off Britain. She will be joined on stage by Christopher Biggins, and Dr Dawn Harper – known for her appearances on ITV’s This Morning and as the author of ‘Live Well to 101’.

Christopher – crowned king of the jungle in ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2007 – says: “I can’t wait to join Gloria and Dawn as we reveal the UK’s top tips for living life to the full in retirement.

“I’m expecting an energetic debate – with plenty of laughter. After all, ageing isn’t just about wrinkles and slowing down, it can be so much more. It’s a chance to spend time doing what we love and finally getting round to all those things we’ve always dreamed of. I expect I’ll pick up a few tips myself!”

The results of the ‘101 Ways to Enjoy Getting Older’ campaign will be unveiled during the two separate sessions at 11am and 2pm on Thursday 21st November at London’s Southbank Centre. Tickets will be available to either event absolutely FREE on a first come first served basis.
