Tattenhall residents make their mark on new retirement village

Tattenhall residents are putting their own stamp on a new retirement village after taking part in a competition to name the apartments that form part of the £50m scheme.

Inspired Villages, which is currently building a retirement village on Frog Lane, invited the local community to name the different types of apartments and the apartment blocks in the development. The competition challenged residents to come up with creative ideas that were both distinctive and linked to Tattenhall, resulting in over 100 entries.

The winning names for the apartment types include ‘Wignall’, after Tattenhall resident Edith Wignall MBE who was Commandant of the two Auxiliary Hospitals located in Tattenhall in The Great War, and ‘Brierley’ after local Doctor Thomas Brierley, who worked with his father in the village at the beginning of the 20th Century.

The eight apartment blocks have been named after wildflowers that can be seen in the village as well as a selection of trees that were planted in Jubilee Wood during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

James Cobb, Sales and Marketing Director at Inspired Villages, said: “It was fantastic to see so many local people get involved in the competition and we were really impressed with the quality and creativity of all of the entries.

“It was a tough decision deciding the winners, but we’re delighted with the final choices that show that ‘Tattenhallers’ really know their locality.

“We’ve already updated our website with the new names and hope that the winners take pride in the fact that they’ve created their very own piece of history at the new retirement village.”

The lucky winners each received £25 to spend on the High Street and their chosen names will feature on the apartments forming part of the first phase at Inspired Villages in Tattenhall, which is scheduled to be complete in spring 2016.

Inspired Tattenhall offers over 65s exclusive one and two-bedroom homes, a wide variety of social and leisure activities and a range of care packages. When completed, the new village centre will include a wellness spa and relaxation pool, gym, shops, restaurants, bowling green, community space and on-site care services.
